I thought by reading the reviews this place would be delicious...wow, the reviews are really off. We ordered the steak tacos and it was very disappointing. The beef had NO flavor at all. The red salsa was, gross. They really need to learn how to season meat, it was like steak cooked with nothing, no salt, no pepper, no seasoning at all. The salsa was so watery it made the tortillas soggy. And on top of that the beef was tough and chewy. $10.00 for three tacos was a rip off. Will never go back here again.

Perfect if you are in the mood for a quick meal. They have tacos and roll giant burritos similar to Chipotle. But their ingredients and flavors far surpass Chipotle. The place is small (seats about 20). The make their own salsa and guacamole fresh. I will definitely be back when I am in town.

We were walking through downtown CB and decided to stop here for some Mexican food. The line was out the door, but moved quickly. I had a steak burrito and my wife had chicken. Staff were great and helpful in pairing a salsa to your tastes. Both burritos were unbelievably great. We grabbed a small piece of real estate and scarfed them down with very few words other than "this is awesome". Highly recommended!

Yum. Super friendly staff. Food was delicious. Love that they close til Noon on powder days. The tamales were fabulous

Never fails to be great good. This is a mist ho place if you are visiting the Butte. Great high protein food that stays with you all day.

The reviews are accurate. One of the best places to eat in town. Very good food, the tacos are very good. Friendly staff, nice laid back environment. Will eat here if I return to town.

Great flavorful honest home cookin from some super friendly peeps who love and take Pride in what they do. It's a locals fav.

If you are looking for a cheap meal in Crested Butte, I highly recommend Teocalli Tamale! We decided to try Teocalli due to an amazing previous experience a friend had. We were not let down. The food is made super fast and it is fairly cheap. They have tamales, burritos and tacos, so the basic Mexican fare. The food is super fresh for how quickly it is made as well. It was interesting to see a Subway or Chipolte style ordering system where you got to customize your meal as it progressed to the register. When I return to Crested Butte, I will for sure be returning to Teocalli Tamale!

  • Britt D.

Nom Nom tamales... this is a great spot for a cheap lunch or dinner in Crested Butte - definitely a local's place. I ordered the veg-friendly tamale plate - a huge portion of rice and beans with two tamales, smothered in green chile and cheese. I really could have made two meals out of this, but my momma taught me to always clean my plate. They have a couple of outdoor seats and also serve beer & margs. Great option for a cheap and tasty night out.

  • KarJac B.

Pretty expensive for what we expected, including binging your own dishes back inside from the patio. But good quality food.

A Crested Butte staple, Teo has been serving up deliciousness since before I arrived in the valley 7 years ago. Everyone knows it...there really is no better option for affordable, quality chow up-valley. The tacos are my go-to here, but let's be real..it's all good. Make sure to try Mike's Mexicali as a meat option...Flavortown, USA

So good! After eating out around town for a few days, I found this place. Huge portions unlike most of the other restaurants. It's also way cheaper than any other place in town. I had the Thai burrito and it was full of flavors. I recommend this place if you are hungry and don't want to spend a lot of money. The only bad thing is it's a little small inside and not good for groups. However, take it to go and eat it on a bench somewhere downtown and watch the bike riders go by.

    (5)
  • Jack H.

Here's what I think. Those jokers from Bonez should come down to Teocalli Tamale and learn how to serve tacos. Wowser. This is an absolutely perfect taco (and tamale and burrito) place. It's a joint, a dive. The food is fast, hot, and savory. Grab a beer and eat on a bench outside.

    (4)
  • Carly Hana P.

Grabbed two burritos here on way to go ride when all the breakfast joints in town had a long wait. Tasty fresh burritos, but overpriced. Added guac to both burritos which totaled $26. On the other hand there was no wait and I got in and out quickly. Wish they offered breakfast burritos!

  • Kat S.

I had the best burrito of my life at Teocalli Tamale! I ordered the Teo Thai burrito and was blown away at the flavors. The folks behind the counter were super friendly even though they were slammed. My husband had the fish tacos and they were really good but that burrito will make me plan another visit to CB.

    (5)
  • Walter A.

I dream about Teocalli Tamale between my visits to CB. It's AWESOME. They don't try to be something they are not - just great tacos and tamales. Fillings and sauces are terrific, super friendly casual atmosphere, very reasonably priced. What more can be said!?

    (5)
  • Josh H.

Meh. I had the steak tacos and they had zero flavor and the meat was tough. I would have given it less but the tamales were pretty good. And I thought it was a little expensive for tacos and tamales which are dirt cheap in most places.

    (3)
  • Anne A.

Excellent speed and service which we greatly appreciated with two hungry kids. No kids menu is bit of a drag. Had to shell our for adult portions they didn't eat. Over $50 for 2 adults and 2 little kids with no alcohol. Guacamole was good but chips didn't taste very fresh. My husband liked his spicy beef tacos and my pesto burrito was good but not OMG or anything.

    (3)
  • T D.

Tacos are excellent! Tamales could use some help but still decent. Salsa was also great. Nice change of pace from the other spots in CB. Plus they close until noonish on pow days. Nice!

    (4)
  • John M.

I've only tried the homemade tamales with green chile sauce but they were excellent. Super friendly hosts, great casual ski town vibe as expected. We will be back to try more of the menu items!

  • Charlie R.

Amazing Mexican food tucked away in Crested Butte! The fish and beef tacos are outstanding. Don't forget the habeñero salsa!

    (5)
  • Andrew S.

Had lunch here at what is now an "old" establishment in CB, Excellent food and tho there was aline it moved very quickly. Everyone very friendly. Seating is a bit uncomfortable, but for short duration it is doable. Big issue I have with this place is cost. Clearly hitting the tourist season big time....could easily do what they do for 15% less on prices. But you can make up your mind yourself. Very tasty

    (4)
  • K H.

Been here many times during my visits to Crested Butte. This is my main lunch time staple after a morning of riding. Their shredded beef is very good, as is their fish tacos and tamales. I haven't had a bad item here!

    (5)
  • Jonathan B.

Although the seating is limited, the flavors are abundant. I hadn't been there in years, but recently tried it again and really liked it. I recommend getting the fish tacos. That is why I went there orginally many years ago and they are still great. I was surprised to see margaritas this time and they were pretty good. Don't expect to find the doors open if there is fresh snow on the mountain. They will take a "powder day" and close up shop if there is good snow. While it may be disappointing if you're jonesing for a burrito, it speaks to the charm of the restaurant and the town.

    (4)
  • Jon L.

We stumbled in this place and we were very surprised to find out how good the tacos were. definitely coming back.

    (5)
  • Tommy J.

Killer burrito, and great for vegetarians too! (Their pinto beans don't even have ham, eat it Chipotle.) Prices on par with the chain joints, but better atmosphere and the nicest dudes running it. The perfect spot to go after a day of shredding.

    (5)
  • Lucia O.

I'm in CB every summer, and always make time to get a to-go lunch or dinner here. The veggie tacos and salsas are good and fresh, the prices reasonable, the staff always pretty friendly. And while most places in mountain towns run on mountain time (i.e., 25 minutes for a bagel and coffee to-go), Teo is pretty efficient at getting things done.

    (5)
  • Pinky C.

Best Mexican food in CB. Try the off-the-menu double shell taco (crispy shell wrapped in soft tortilla, stuck together with guac). Great service too.

    (5)
  • Bruce R.

Great taco/burrito/tamale joint. Inexpensive and you get a lot of good food given what you're paying. Excellent veggie tacos and guacamole, salsas were fantastic. Really nice people working there. Can be hard to get a seat during a rush since it's a pretty small and rather popular but if you wait a few minutes you should be ok.

    (5)
  • Nicole S.

Awesome local lunch stop! My aunt brought me here during her lunch break, and she literally knew everyone who came into the joint! The portions are generous, and made to order....I had Mike's Mexolina shredded beef soft tacos....they were fresh, made to order, and had just the right amount of spice! Added corn salsa and fresh verde salsa, it was a nice treat! As a San Diego baja mexican food snob, I will say that Teocalli definitely earned my approval. Doubly so because it was obviously the local lunch hot spot, and I'm all about supporting the local businesses in one of my favorite ski towns!

  • Taylor C.

Went here while on vacation numerous times. Great burritos, and great service!!

Great and fast Mexican food. Great service and huge portions. A Crested Butte must after a long bike ride or day on the mountain.

    (5)
  • Benjamin S.

Best burritos anywhere!! Mike's Mexilina is the ticket on the meat for sure! Right after college I lived in CB and I ate here at least twice a week. After 3 years of eating two burritos a week, I had what you'd call an addiction. This culminating in driving 8 hours on one occasion back to CB, literally for a burrito. Hanging with friends was good too, but the reason I made that drive in the first place was the burrito. The owner and staff are super awesome local people. All the ingredients are quality and I know for a fact all their beans are hand cooked from scratch, not from a can. This place is super legit high end Mexican food at a reasonable price. Can't wait to eat there again, still thinking about those Mike's Mexillina burritos years later!

The place in Crested Butte for an amazing burrito!

    (5)
  • Mark O.

We had lunch at Teocalli and enjoyed three excellent tacos -- flavorful (the marinated steak was the best) and filling with just the right amount of heat and veggies in it. I wish we were staying longer in Crested Butte, since I'd have loved to have tried their tamales.

    (5)
  • Jamie W.

Great burritos. Especially the Mike's Mexolina. Perfect place for a quick carryout, counter service lunch. Closed on Powder-Days.

    (4)
  • Steve R.

Amazing food, great service, cheerful staff. Great place to refuel after a day around the Butte. Don't expect to always get a seat though, this place can get packed in a hurry.

    (5)
  • Ashley S.

This was OUTSTANDING!! You could customize every dish, the ingredients were fresh, the meats were incredible and the service was friendly and fast. We love Mexican food and we were thoroughly impressed by this little restaurant.

  • Doug P.

Always friendly, fresh, and delicious! A staple in Crested Butte!

  • Rose K.

i wasn't expecting much, but i was pleasantly surprised by their tamales. i ended up getting both the mild red chile&pork and the spicier green chile&cheese and both were pretty good. the tamale was thinner than i was used to and the masa was more white than yellow and for a lack of a better word, slippery (i'm used to the masa being a little more fluffier and dry), i'd definitely come back if i ever come back to crested butte. the service was great, beer was ice cold, and the margaritas were good. my friend had the fish tacos and while it was okay, the fish was a bit fishy tasting, but that's something i expected. all in all, a good experience. yay tamales!

    (3)
  • Julianne W.

Absolutely Delicious! I had the pork tamales smothered in green chile (over rice & beans). It was amazing! I highly recommend this low-key, but completely yummy spot! Make sure you're hungry when you go here!

    (5)
  • Sean B.

We had a great early dinner here and it was fantastic. This place really exceeded our expectations particularly if you consider the price. The chips and salsas were delicious as was the margs! I liked the staff too, helpful and really easy going.

  • Eric W.

My dad and I stopped in here for lunch. My dad had chicken tacos. He said that they "really hit the spot." I had the Thai burrito, but with Mahi as the meat. It took a while for them to cook the fish because the cook it fresh to order, but it was worth it! They put tons of fish in my burrito and the fish was really moist and good. The burrito was pretty big. I ate half for lunch that day and saved half as leftovers for the next day. It was a great burrito, both fresh and leftover!

    (4)
  • Ali W.

What a great place for lunch! Everything looked delicious on the menu. I had the Teocalli Thai burrito; it was as good as it sounded on the menu. Be sure to ask for extra meat, like steak, and roasted corn salsa in the burrito to make it even better. My burrito was so good that a guy tried to steal it. No joke. I got it back though (nothing comes between a girl and a good steak burrito). Other popular items are their fish tacos and fish burrito (when they actually have fish). Crested Butte isn't exactly near an ocean, you know.

  • Kaliko Y.

Great place. Always one of the first stops wen I am in town. I have burrito and tamale. Pesto burrito with veggies, no sour cream, cheese, salsa verde. Green chile and cheese tamale with green sauce on top. Divine bliss. The burritos are large enough to split so you can try several things on the menu. They are super friendly and always have a smile on their face. Went in for a snack on Christmas Day, when I discovered they were offering a complimentary cup of Glogg. It was an old family recipe. It was wonderful, a nice treat. Please visit.

  • Michael F.

Great little tamale and burrito stand! Pork tamales were a little bland but fresh, and the veggie tamales were quite good! Not quite authentic Mexican but very tasty!

  • Del C.

The best. Been going for 10 years. Almost named our son after this place. While in CB this place is a must.

    (5)
  • Kd D.

Thai burrito was great (I added chicken). Super nice staff. Fresh salsa, great margs and I even got a $0.50 discount for a gap between my teeth! Awesome music, chill atmosphere...all around good!

  • Sheridan C.

By far, the best place to eat in town. The food was fresh, hot, and cooked quickly. Plus, the service was excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They constantly smiled and offered to help carry drinks to our table. They opened the doors ten minutes earlier because they didn't want us to stand in the cold. One of the managers walked around and introduced himself to each table and asked if we needed anything. Crested Butte tends to have a lot of employees who are disgruntled and obviously working there for the mountain. At Teocalli Tamale, I have no doubts that they are there for the same reason, but they don't show it. I would recommend this place over and over and over. Good job.

    (5)
  • Maisie W.

The best burrito I have ever had. Everything tastes fresh, the flavors taste very authentic and not Tex MEx or Mexican-American. They are HUGE and easily split between two people. The guys behind the counter are all really laid back and chill and helpful. I just took my vegan friend there and he also said it was the best burrito he'd ever had. Choose between three kinds of salsa. Great guacamole. I think the menu is relatively extensive for such a tiny place but I never can see to get anything but the burrito. (We did try a cheese tamale last time and it had a kick but was delicious!) This is a plastic baskets and paper type of joint so I don't expect much by way of service, but I do wish the tables were cleaned more regularly. If you have a gap in your teeth you get a discount (I think it's 50 cents or something)!

  • Susie H.

Long line for great food. Wish they had an outdoor area to sit in as we were worried that we wouldn't have a place to sit down but people are nice and gave us our seats at the last moment... Delicious Burritos. We also tried the spicy tamale and it was good too. I had the shredded beef burrito and it had lots of beef in it...Loved their costumes on the walls..

  • J L.

Yummy burritos and tamales. Cute little restaurant. Friendly service. Only downside is that the prices are a bit steep compared to my normal cheap-o taquerias (nearly $10 for a burrito)--but most things seem to be more expensive here. I guess it's the ski town premium.

    (4)
  • Chip G.

Always our first stop when we hit town. Great food with fresh ingredients, cold beer, passable margaritas. Friendly staff and easy in, easy out. Even when they're slammed it doesn't take long to get your food. The burritos are excellent, but be sure to try the tamales too.

    (5)
  • JJ M.

Loved this place during our visit. We had tamales and tacos. Great food, friendly service, great location. Outdoor seating. Mountain views. My only regret is we didn't have the margs. Next time...

    (5)
  • Sara S.

We come to Crested Butte for 2 reasons: to put the kids in ski school and to eat at Teocalli Tamale every day we are here. The green chile tamales with green chile sauce are perfect.

    (5)
  • Carolyn H.

OMG. The best margaritas in town. Do yourself favor and just order a pitcher then you don't have to go to the counter for refills. Tamale plate is awesome. Love it!

    (5)
  • Amber A.

Quirky, small but always reliable, the Teocalli hits the spot. Open when many restaraunts shut down for the season, this is a friendly local hang-out where everything is customized for you at the counter while you watch. My husband gets tamales, and I usually get a burrito and some chips/guac. A little pricier than you'd find for the same Chipotle-Qdoba fare in the big city, but definitely less expensive than most CB dining spots.

  • Chris G.

We own a B&B in CB (The Ruby) and we tell our guests that this is the best "fast food" place in CB - hands down. They have a great selection of basic burritos, and several specialty burritos that are really good (try the Teocalli Thai). I also love the tamales covered in green chile. Great veggie options too - gourmet veggie burritos, "no-line" nachos (not on menu and only available when there is no line), and the aforementioned veggie hot tamales. This place also has a great late night menu with margs, mojitos, and a bunch of Mexican beers. An easy recommendation for all our guests!

  • Marilyn B.

We ate here one night after arriving to Crested Butte. It was a SMALL little space but don't let that fool you. We lived in Texas for 25 years and were looking for some good Mexican food. The ingredients and flavors met expectations. Be prepared to eat in shifts if you don't get the same thing. Three of the group got either chicken or steak. I got the Baja Mahi Mahi. We were told that it would be 10 -15 minutes extra. Oh well, I wanted fish. It was worth the wait. Of course it came after everyone else was finished. Margaritas were good! Salsa and Guacamole is FRESH.

    (5)
  • Jeff S.

We walked in and noticed that nearly half of their menu items included the words 'spicy' in the descriptions. Score. Another long day of snowboarding down and it was time to feed the tapeworms*. Maybe instead of trying to appease them with massive amounts of calories we could burn them into submission by way of habanero and arbol chiles. Honestly I don't remember what tacos I ended up getting, only that I remember saying "these are a fricken solid 4 on Yelp" at some point to myself. Then we passed out. (*There are no actual tapeworms in this story. That is our excuse for the atypical ravenous appetites which form after riding off the mountain for the day.)

  • Tim H.

First time here. My wife-unit complained to me that if my vegetarian daughter-unit had gotten what she had the veggie would not have been pleased because there was meat in it. It all came clear when I ate mine and discovered it had no meat in it. I ordered another and ate both and both were good. I like the attitude of the people behind the counter and I like the signs that inform that opening will occur at twelve on powder days.

    (4)
  • Jacalyn Y.

This was a very good stop in our travels. Friendly staff and fresh food. The spicy meat was perfect. It was after 2 pm but, it seemed like the lunch crowd had just started. It was busy. They moved people through quickly and efficiently. Customers all had a pleased look on their faces. Guac was very good as were the margaritas.

  • Brian K.

Focus focus focus and read the instructions when you're trying to open the front door. Just sayin'. Solid burritos, decent tamales. If you want something casual, this is the right place. Pretty simple to order, made in front of you. Constructive comment - what's up with the tabasco sauce? There are so many more interesting sauces to put on a burrito/taco. Maybe a project for a CB local - make a decent hot sauce, bottle it, spread it.

    (4)
  • David K.

Although it's not the best Mexican I've had, it certainly is good. The tacos are delicious and very filling, they pack me full of meat! They're extremely fast and very friendly. I only wish they had soft corn tortillas or fried crispy taco shells rather than the grocery store crispy. Still awesome and I'll keep coming back!

    (5)
  • Barrie B.

Rad spot. Super fresh ingredients. Good service. This is an order at the counter Chipotle style place w/ the mentality of Illegal Petes (if you're from Boulder/Denver). We were visiting CB and needed something fast, but good. We had the pup and didn't want to leave her alone too long. This hit the spot. The tamales were excellent and the tacos were top notch. Pretty reasonable prices too.

    (5)
  • Ted K.

Super delicious slow roasted beef in a über yummy spicy sauce, great spot, indoor and outdoor seating, nice selection of menu items, they remove fish when it's not available rather than forcing it and having bad fish, good limited beer selection, and so forth. I went with 4 starts instead of 5 cause my one burrito with guac went for nearly $15 which seems insane. Plus it was warm in some spots and cold in others. Alas, super delicious and I'm still a fan. Hot sauces galore!

  • Prairie S.

You know when the servers behind the counter are welcoming and pleasant, that they like what they are doing. That alone makes dining here a pleasure--knowing that the cooks and staff are into their cooking, and they care about their production. This place has a select few Mexican offerings of tacos-- both hard and soft shell-- burritos and tamales, but what they do, they do exceedingly well. The taste of the vegetarian taco, the chicken taco, and the Mikes Mexican taco were delicious...topped with a variety of salsas and options. Juices dripping off my fingers are a good sign. My friend ordered the burrito which looked delicious as well. We swilled the classic homemade margaritas down...while huddling Inside from a Crested Butte thunderstorm. Claps of thunder! Explosion of taste! Sturm und Drang! I would go here again in a heartbeat and encourage others to indulge their taste buds here.

If you eat lunch anywhere else after a bike ride, you need to have your head examined. The steak tacos are my favorite with the chipotle salsa. Some of the best tacos I have ever had. The wife loved the beef tacos. Very smoky flavor.

  • Liz R.

You can never go wrong with the Tamale plate or anything with Mike's Mex-o-Lina. Beware: closed for Pow days! :)

  • Mary T.

I was definitely craving tacos while on a trip with my boyfriend in CB. Stumbled along this place and the atmosphere was relaxing and laid back. It's a pretty small place though and lacked seating. Had a couple share tables with us because there was no place for them to sit, but why not be welcoming?!? :) Tacos were super awesome. I enjoyed the fish tacos. The steak one was ok. And the pork (don't quite remember the name) was pretty good also. Great selection on hot sauces. Food came out fairly slow for me but because of the fish. I'd go here again though next time I'm back for sure.

    (4)
  • John D.

Excellent Mexican place in CB. Small but inviting atmosphere and terrific food. We tried the mikes mex-o-lina and the chicken tacos. Both were very solid selections. Also able to wash it down with a nice Dale's Pale ale which was welcomed after a long day on the slopes. Definitely recommend should your travels bring you to the butte!

  • Bebbia J.

In a few words, just not impressed. Perhaps it was my selection. I chose the steak tacos, with guacomole ($ extra) and topped with lettuce, cheese and the medium corn salsa. Granted I made a mistake in selecting the soft tortillas which turned out not to be soft corn tortillas but flour tortillas. But honestly, who uses flour tortillas in tacos? I can hear half of my home base of Tucson gasping at this break with tradition. And given that the flour tortillas were not particularly the finest of their kind, well, heck yes, it mattered. But really what fell short for me was the steak, which had a chewy, dry texture and if marinaded, didn't impress me as particularly flavorful. I will acknowledge that the corn salsa was delicious. Also, having filtered water available was great. That's something I would love to see our local taco stands offer. Otherwise, the so-so food was certainly not worth the $13+ that I paid for 3 tacos and frankly not worth half of that.

Our go to when we don't want to cook! Quick yummy and decent price

    (4)
  • R J.

Terrible service and not worth the price! 2 burritos cost $23 and they were cold and tasted worst than Chipotle. Can't believe it was voted best mexican in CB! I guess white people love it.

  • Alex L.

Excellent place to get Mexican food In CB! The food is fresh, seasoned well, has plenty of options to personalize it to your taste and has large portions! It is a small location with limited seating, so be aware before visiting. Highly recommended and will become must go to every time we visit CB!

  • Jessica T.

High quality ingredients. Tasty tacos and good tamales. Great service too! First time here, and there were 8 of us- 4 adults and 4 kids. Order at the counter, something for everyone (assuming you like tacos and tamales). I really liked their shredded beef taco. Also had their spicy green chili tamale and it was good- not the best I ever had but tasty nonetheless. Kids were happy with their tacos and chips. And the grownups took down 2 pitchers of margaritas; very good margaritas! Not too sweet and not too sour, and they're generous with the tequila! The place itself was clean and cozy. No more than 10 tables probably, but everyone was friendly (employees and patrons alike). All in all, I would definitely come back here on my next visit to CB.

    (5)
  • Michael H.

Back for another visit recently. We found the tamales especially good. Steak in the steak burritos a bit chewy. Margaritas mediocre. Still a good spot and we will return, but a little disappointing this time.

  • Pratik G.

After tiring day, we came here for dinner. Place had amazing ambiance. Although queue was moving very slow, guys at counter really makes you feel welcomed. We ordered pesto burrito and chili tamale. Both tasted good. One star minus for the dirty tables with pile of leftover dishes.

On a Sunday night at 8, we didn't expect much in the way of service from the local restaurants. When we pulled up to Teo, Davin, the owner, was incidentally waiting to open the door for us. Once we were ordering, we weren't treated like the last customers of a long night. We were treated like old friends. I had the Tamale Plate and my wife had the Veggie Burrito. Our friends split the Thai Burrito. All were recommendations by the guys preparing the burritos. The guys were talkative, helpful, and kind. After we sat down, Davin brought us some free treats and talked with us. Why go anywhere else in Crested Butte? The food was great. The staff was unparalleled.

    (5)
  • David L.

Good food at relatively reasonable prices. The place is small so seating can be difficult when CB is crowded.

    (4)
  • Garland T.

Good but not great. Had a burrito and the portions were generous. Small space so I wouldn't take a big group.
